Fauci admits no science or trials behind key COVID-19 measures

Viral video reignites fury over pandemic response

Dr Anthony Fauci admits in viral video that key COVID-19 measures had “no science behind it” and “no clinical trials.” The clip has reignited fierce debate over the pandemic response

Dr Anthony Fauci, the former director of the US National Institute of Allergy and Infectious Diseases, has come under renewed criticism after a viral video compilation surfaced in which he appears to acknowledge that certain public health measures during the COVID-19 pandemic lacked robust scientific backing and clinical trials. The clip, widely shared on Friday, 19 June 2026, has sparked intense online debate.

Dr Anthony Fauci, who served as the public face of the US coronavirus response under multiple administrations, is shown in various interview and hearing excerpts. In one notable segment, he states that some recommendations “had no science behind it…and there was no clinical trials…that’s why it was accepted.” The video montage juxtaposes these remarks with earlier footage of strict masking, social distancing, and lockdown policies that affected billions globally.

The six-minute compilation, posted by social media user Liz Churchill, has rapidly gained traction, with many viewers describing it as deeply disturbing. It revives longstanding accusations that key pandemic policies were driven more by expediency than by settled evidence, particularly around prolonged school closures, mask mandates for children, and six-foot distancing rules.

This latest controversy adds to years of scrutiny surrounding America’s handling of the COVID-19 pandemic, which claimed millions of lives worldwide and triggered unprecedented economic and social disruption. Supporters of Dr Fauci argue that decisions were made under extreme uncertainty in the early stages of a novel virus and that public health guidance evolved as new data emerged. Critics, however, maintain that officials overstated certainty and downplayed legitimate scientific debate.

In the video, Dr Fauci is also seen defending certain measures while acknowledging limitations in others. The selective editing has drawn both praise for exposing alleged inconsistencies and condemnation as misleading.

The release comes amid ongoing global discussions about pandemic preparedness, government transparency, and accountability for public health decisions that profoundly impacted daily life. Many families continue to grapple with the long-term effects of lockdowns, lost learning, and economic hardship.

As reactions continue to pour in, the video underscores the deep divisions that still linger more than six years after the outbreak began. Whether it leads to fresh formal reviews remains uncertain, but it has powerfully reminded many of the human cost when science, policy, and public trust intersect under pressure.
