Recall that there had been outcry from the supporters of the presidential candidate of the Labour Party that came far third in the election, Peter Obi, urging the US president, Joe Biden, to punish anyone guilty of disrupting the process.
Blinken made the recent announcement on his official Twitter handle while stressing the country’s support in strengthening democracy in Nigeria.
“We have imposed visa restrictions on specific individuals who undermined the democratic process during Nigeria’s 2023 elections. We remain committed to supporting Nigerian aspirations to strengthen democracy and rule of law,” Blinken wrote.
He, however, did not disclose the list of the people affected by this restriction.
