Francis Onyema 2027 presidential bid gains momentum as he begins consultations with former Nigerian leaders ahead of his formal declaration

Francis Onyema, a 38 year old political scientist from Delta State, Nigeria, on Wednesday, March 19, 2026, formally commenced consultations in Abuja and across key national institutions as he moved to declare his intention to contest the 2027 presidential election under the National Rescue Movement, marking the start of his Francis Onyema 2027 presidential bid.

The development signals Onyema’s entry into the growing field of aspirants seeking Nigeria’s highest office, with the young politician initiating contact with former Presidents Olusegun Obasanjo and Goodluck Jonathan as part of what he described as a broad engagement with national stakeholders.

He also reached out to prominent traditional and public figures, including the Oba of Benin, the Emir of Kano, and human rights lawyer Femi Falana, in a structured consultation process aimed at building national awareness ahead of his formal declaration scheduled for March 25, 2026, in Abuja.

Sources close to his campaign described the outreach as strategic and deliberate, forming the foundation of what Onyema believes should be a reform driven political movement centred on competence and policy innovation rather than traditional political patronage.

In his emerging political narrative, Onyema has consistently argued for a shift in Nigeria’s leadership recruitment process, insisting that governance should be anchored on ideas, measurable solutions and credible development plans. His position has drawn attention among observers tracking new entrants into the 2027 race.

As part of the Francis Onyema 2027 presidential bid, he is expected to unveil a policy document titled From the Political Class to the Reformist Class, which outlines his vision for governance reform, economic restructuring and citizen focused leadership.

The upcoming declaration event is anticipated to attract journalists, civil society organisations, youth groups and political analysts, reflecting growing interest in issue based politics and emerging reformist candidates within Nigeria’s democratic space.

Political commentators say Onyema’s entry adds a new dynamic to early 2027 race discussions, particularly given his emphasis on intellectual governance and structured policy engagement.
