The operation was carried out by officers of the Deba Division on November 16, after credible intelligence alerted them to suspicious movement in an ash-coloured Toyota Corolla.
Police Public Relations Officer DSP Buhari Abdullahi said the Divisional Police Officer immediately deployed a team to the area.
“On arrival, our operatives sighted three suspects attempting to deliver the suspected illicit substance to an accomplice on a motorcycle.
However, on seeing the police team, the suspects abandoned the exhibits and fled the scene,” he explained.
A search of the surrounding area led to the recovery of three bags containing 66 parcels of dried leaves “reasonably suspected to be Indian hemp.”
The exhibits have been secured as investigations continue, with efforts underway to apprehend the fleeing suspects.
Abdullahi added that Commissioner of Police, CP Bello Yahaya, commended the swift response of the officers, describing the operation as proof of the command’s renewed determination to tackle drug trafficking and associated crimes.
“This recovery is a testament to our resolve to rid Gombe State of crimes and criminal networks. We urge residents to continue providing useful and timely information to support police efforts,” he said.
The command assured the public that further updates will be provided as investigations progress.
