Mao Ohuabunwa, Chairman of the Board of Trustees of the Peoples Democratic Party, reaffirmed support for the PDP Caretaker Committee and called for unity, respect for court rulings and careful preparation for outstanding congresses ahead of a national convention.

Mao Ohuabunwa spoke at the 85th meeting of the party’s Board of Trustees in Abuja, where leaders reviewed months of internal disputes and legal contests that have tested the cohesion of the opposition party.
Mao Ohuabunwa said the PDP remained intact because of its institutional strength and adherence to constitutional principles rather than individual ambitions.
Mao Ohuabunwa explained that the delay in conducting party congresses was a deliberate step to avoid undermining ongoing judicial processes.
Mao Ohuabunwa welcomed recent court decisions, including a Federal High Court ruling in Ibadan which affirmed the legitimacy of the Abdulrahman-led National Caretaker Committee, and urged party members to comply fully with lawful judgments.
Mao Ohuabunwa cautioned against actions and statements capable of fuelling division, stressing that fairness and due process must guide the party’s decisions at a critical moment.
Also addressing the meeting, Abdulrahman Mohammed, National Chairman of the PDP Caretaker Committee, thanked the Board of Trustees for its consistent support, describing it as vital to the stability of the party during a defining phase.
Abdulrahman Mohammed acknowledged the backing of the Minister of the Federal Capital Territory, Nyesom Wike, stating that the support had strengthened the committee’s resolve to reposition the party.
Abdulrahman Mohammed confirmed that a Federal High Court in Ibadan had issued a declaratory judgment in favour of the committee and said preparations were under way to release a timetable for outstanding congresses that would lead to a seamless national convention.
Abdulrahman Mohammed described the PDP as a party with nationwide structures and a history of governance, warning that the party could not afford complacency at a time requiring decisive action.
Last week, a Federal High Court in Ibadan nullified the PDP National Convention held in the city between 15 and 16 November 2025.
Justice Uche Agomoh ruled that the Caretaker Committee led by Abdulrahman Mohammed and Senator Samuel Anyanwu remained the only recognised National Working Committee pending a valid convention.
The court also restrained Kabiru Turaki and other officials who emerged from the disputed convention from parading themselves as national officers of the party.

The developments underscore the party’s cautious but determined effort to stabilise its structures and restore internal order through legal and institutional channels.
