Governor Charles Soludo has fulfilled his pre-election promise by constructing a state-of-the-art general hospital in Okpoko, Ogbaru Local Government Area of Anambra State.

The newly built healthcare facility is set to transform medical services in the region, offering modern equipment and improved access to quality healthcare.

According to the Chief Press Secretary to the Governor, Christian Aburime, the Okpoko General Hospital is well-equipped, particularly its ophthalmology unit.

Dr Chinasa Eze, from the hospital’s Ophthalmologist Unit, confirmed that Governor Soludo has provided advanced eyecare facilities to enhance vision care for the community. Additionally, he has approved free antenatal services for pregnant women, further improving maternal health in the area.

This development comes shortly after Governor Soludo was recognised as the best-performing governor in primary healthcare delivery in both the Southeast and Nigeria as a whole.

The prestigious awards were presented by the Nigeria Governors’ Forum (NGF), the Bill and Melinda Gates Foundation, the Aliko Dangote Foundation, the Federal Ministry of Health, and UNICEF.

Under Soludo’s leadership, Anambra State has witnessed significant improvements in its healthcare system. His administration has not only upgraded primary healthcare centres but has also built five new general hospitals, equipping them with modern facilities and skilled personnel.

To further strengthen the sector, the governor has recruited 1,000 healthcare professionals, including doctors, nurses, consultants, pharmacists, and medical laboratory technicians. He has also introduced telemedicine services to enhance access to medical care.

As part of the recognition for its healthcare advancements, Anambra State received a total of $1.2 million in awards, with $500,000 for being the best-performing state in the Southeast and $700,000 for overall excellence in the Primary Health Care Leadership Challenge.

Governor Soludo’s visionary leadership extends beyond healthcare, earning Anambra the fourth position in BudgIT’s 2024 State of States Report for fiscal performance and sustainability. This recognition underscores the state’s strong financial management and commitment to improving essential services for its citizens.
