Heirs Insurance Hackathon opens for students to create AI-driven solutions, with N9 million prize pool and mentorship opportunities

Heirs Insurance Group, HIG, has opened applications for the inaugural Heirs Insurance Hackathon, a technology-focused innovation programme aimed at empowering students to shape the future of insurance through artificial intelligence and digital solutions.

The Hackathon, open exclusively to students from universities, polytechnics, and tertiary institutions, challenges participants to develop solutions addressing real-world issues across the insurance sector, including customer experience, claims processing, underwriting, distribution, and operational efficiency.

Registration closes on 16 February 2026, with winners to be announced at the grand finale in April.

The top three teams will share a total prize pool of N9 million.

The initiative highlights HIG’s commitment to youth empowerment, digital skills development, and inclusive innovation.

Peace Philips, Chief Digital Officer at Heirs Insurance Group, said the Hackathon provides a platform for young innovators to engage with the insurance industry.

“Africa’s future will be built by young people who can apply their ideas, creativity, and technology skills to real economic challenges,” she said.

“Through this programme, participants can contribute to a more efficient and inclusive financial system while gaining exposure, mentorship, and practical experience.”

The Hackathon is delivered in partnership with Redtech, the digital payments arm of Heirs Holdings, which will support technical evaluation and ensure submissions are assessed for creativity, feasibility, scalability, and real-world impact.

Entries can be submitted via the Heirs Insurance Group website at hackathon.heirsinsurance.com.
