Tension gripped residents of Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State after armed hoodlums razed the country home of the candidate of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) for Saturday’s House of Assembly election, Ifeanyi Ozoemena.
It was gathered the heavily armed hoodlums, numbering over 10, threw explosives at the houses belonging to the candidate and his father which caught fire immediately.
Ozoemena, who confirmed the incident to reporters, said his house and that of his father were completely razed by the hoodlums.
”My house and that of my father at Umuokparaoha village in Umulolo community in the Okigwe Local Government Area of Imo State were razed on Tuesday.
”They stormed the place around 2 pm, set the houses on fire and supervised the burning. The two houses and the properties got destroyed in the attack. They operated unchallenged. I am distraught. This is unfortunate, ” he lamented.
Imo Police spokesman Henry Okoye promised to get back but was yet to do so at the time of filing the report.
The houses of a former Commissioner for Information, Nnamdi Obiaraeri and a retired Director of the Department of Security Service, Nnaemeka Ngwu, the Director General of the Campaign Organisation of the Labour Party candidate for Okigwe North Federal Constituency, Okey Unam all in Ihube community in the Okigwe LGA were burnt to ashes.
