[dropcap]A[/dropcap] concerned Emure indigene, Otunba Olumide Abegunde, has called on the governor of Ekiti State, Mr. Biodun Abayomi Oyebanji, to address the pressing issues facing Emure Ekiti.

While speaking with Freelanews, Otunba Abegunde remarked that it is rather disturbing that the governor has yet to visit town following the kidnapping of school pupils and has not extended any condolence message since the demise of the Elemure of Emure Ekiti, His Royal Majesty Oba Emmanuel Adebowale Adebayo.

“Since that time that Elemure departed and up till now that we have a regent, the governor has not set foot nor sent common letter to us,” Otunba said.

He also stated that the governor seems to have overlooked the town, with no signs of government impact or development since his inauguration.

The lack of government appointments for any Emure indigene further highlights the town’s marginalization, despite its significant status in Ekiti State.

One of the critical issues raised by Otunba Abegunde is the deplorable condition of the Eporo Owo road. This vital road, which connects Ekiti State with Owo in Ondo State, has been in a state of disrepair for too long.

“It was on this road that the school pupils were kidnapped, yet no security measures, such as a police post or road repairs, have been implemented to deter criminal activities.”

Similarly, he revealed that the road from Ikere to Emure suffers from neglect.

“Contractors only perform minimal work every six months before disappearing, leaving the road in a dangerous state.”

Otunba Abegunde, therefore, appeals to the governor on behalf of all Emure indigenes for urgent attention and action.

The high chief also noted the dire need of development in the town, stating that even the local government being non-functional.

“The town’s residents are seeking the governor’s support to establish a polytechnic. The community has already acquired land for this purpose, and even before his passing, the Elemure had donated two of his properties to support the cause.

“As a former lecturer, Governor Oyebanji is expected to understand the importance of this educational need,” he lamented.

According to him, it is disheartening that smaller towns in Ekiti State boast amenities that Emure lacks.

“The people of Emure Ekiti deserve better infrastructure, security, and educational facilities to improve their quality of life and promote the town’s development,” he concluded.
