This follows lessons learned from the recent Edo election and other prior polls, focusing on improvements in logistics and results management.
Prof Yakubu highlighted that INEC has actively addressed previous challenges, particularly ensuring that polling units open on time and that results are managed efficiently.
“We have learned a lot not only from the last election but also from previous elections,” Yakubu stated. “Our two main areas of focus are improving logistics so that polling units open promptly and refining results management for transparency and accuracy.”
INEC’s presence in Akure ahead of the election underscores its commitment to readiness. Prof Yakubu explained, “We have received positive reports from our state office in Akure, but we decided to conduct an on-ground assessment. This visit allows us to observe preparations firsthand and engage with key stakeholders.”
This week’s agenda for INEC includes various activities aimed at ensuring a well-organised election. The commission will conduct mock voter accreditation across 16 polling units in six local government areas, spanning the state’s three senatorial zones.
INEC will also convene with political parties, civil society groups, security agencies, and media representatives to discuss the election process and reinforce transparency.
Another crucial event in the election’s lead-up will be the signing of the National Peace Accord, organised by the National Peace Committee, where all stakeholders will pledge to a peaceful election.
With a structured approach and comprehensive stakeholder engagement, Prof Yakubu assured Ondo State voters of visible improvements on election day. This reflects INEC’s commitment to a free, fair, and transparent election.
