INEC Chairman Joash Amupitan meets leaders of two PDP factions in Abuja to address leadership disputes ahead of 2026 elections
The Chairman of the Independent National Electoral Commission (INEC), Joash Amupitan, convened a meeting with the leadership of the two rival factions of the Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) at the commission’s headquarters in Abuja.

The engagement comes ahead of the Federal Capital Territory area council elections, as well as the Osun and Ekiti state polls scheduled for 2026.
Both the Tanimu Turaki-led national working committee and the Samuel Anyanwu-led faction were present.
According to INEC, the meeting was called to clarify why the commission continues to receive correspondence from two groups each claiming to represent the PDP.
Following opening remarks from Chairman Amupitan, which outlined the purpose of the discussions, journalists were asked to leave the room as the meeting proceeded in private.
