JMG Limited, a Nigerian provider of integrated electromechanical solutions, has encouraged aspiring engineers at Yaba College of Technology (YABATECH) to develop practical skills, build professional networks and prepare early for the demands of the workplace.
The company gave the advice during the Nigerian Institution of Mechanical Engineers (NIMechE) Student Federation, YABATECH Chapter induction ceremony, held on Friday, October 30, 2026, where it participated as a sponsor and industry stakeholder.

The event brought together students, academic representatives and professionals to formally induct new members into the engineering institution and discuss career opportunities, professional development and emerging industry expectations.
A major highlight was a career development session led by Anthony Chikeluba Uzokwe, Recruitment Specialist at JMG Limited, who challenged students to take deliberate steps towards building successful engineering careers before completing their studies.
Uzokwe advised participants to develop compelling CVs, acquire relevant technical and soft skills, and establish a credible professional presence on LinkedIn to expand their networks and improve access to employment opportunities.
He emphasised that academic qualifications alone may not be sufficient to distinguish graduates in an increasingly competitive job market, noting the importance of practical competence and purposeful career planning.

“Students must be intentional about preparing for the careers they aspire to. Beyond academic qualifications, developing specialised skills, building a strong professional profile and creating meaningful networks are important steps towards becoming competitive in today’s job market,” he said.
Through its sponsorship and direct engagement with the students, JMG provided industry perspectives on the transition from academic learning to professional engineering practice.
The engagement also highlighted the importance of connecting classroom knowledge with workplace expectations, particularly as young professionals prepare to enter an evolving engineering and industrial environment.
JMG’s participation reflects its stated commitment to supporting engineering education, youth development and the development of skilled professionals needed to strengthen Nigeria’s industrial sector.
