Kano mass wedding screening reaches 720 couples as Hisbah conducts medical checks ahead of planned state-sponsored wedding programme

The Kano State Hisbah Board, in collaboration with the Kano State Ministry of Health, on Wednesday, June 10, 2026, confirmed that approximately 720 prospective couples have undergone medical screening across 24 local government areas of Kano State as part of the ongoing Kano mass wedding screening exercise ahead of a planned state-sponsored mass wedding programme.

The screening forms part of preparations for a larger initiative targeting about 3,000 prospective couples selected for the upcoming mass wedding scheme, which is aimed at supporting less privileged residents across the state.

Deputy Commander-General of the Hisbah Board, Mujahideen Aminudddeen, confirmed the development in an official statement, noting that the exercise is still ongoing.

According to him, couples from metropolitan local government areas are expected to continue their screening on Wednesday at the Kano State Agency for the Control of AIDS (KSACA) office along Naibawa.

Aminudddeen explained that participants are required to present copies of their registration forms at the venue, while those from remaining local government areas will be informed of their respective screening schedules in due course.

The ongoing Kano mass wedding screening includes mandatory medical tests covering HIV/AIDS, hepatitis B, genotype compatibility, drug use, pregnancy, and other sexually transmitted infections.

Authorities say the measures are designed to ensure healthier and more stable marital unions under the programme.

The mass wedding initiative, revived under Governor Abba Kabir Yusuf, is intended to provide financial and social support to widows, divorcees, orphans, and other vulnerable residents.

The government has stated that it will also assist beneficiaries with marriage-related expenses and basic household needs.

The programme has continued to attract public attention across the state, with officials describing it as a structured welfare intervention aimed at promoting family stability and social support systems.
