Kano phone market attack at Farm Centre leaves traders injured as suspected youths disrupt business and steal valuables in a violent incident

Suspected thugs on Monday launched a violent attack on traders and customers at the popular mobile phone market in Farm Centre, Kano metropolis, in a disturbing incident that triggered panic and disrupted commercial activities.

The assault, which occurred in broad daylight near Yoyo Plaza within the bustling trading hub, saw groups of youths reportedly storming the market armed with sharp weapons and using force to intimidate traders and passersby.

Eyewitness accounts indicated that the attackers caused widespread chaos, with victims being assaulted and forced to flee as the situation quickly escalated into a state of confusion and fear.

The attackers were also alleged to have carted away mobile phones and other valuable items belonging to traders and customers during the violent incident, further worsening the economic impact on the affected businesses.

One eyewitness suggested the attackers may have emerged from a political gathering held nearby, although this claim remains unverified by authorities.

The swift intervention of armed police officers deployed to the area helped prevent the situation from spiralling further out of control, as security operatives moved in to disperse the hoodlums and restore order.

Several individuals were reportedly injured in the attack, though authorities have yet to confirm any fatalities at the time of filing this report.

The Kano State Police Command has not issued an official statement, as efforts to reach its Public Relations Officer, Abdullahi Haruna, were unsuccessful.

Multiple phone calls went unanswered, while a text message sent to him had not been replied to.

The incident has raised fresh concerns over security in one of Kano’s busiest commercial centres, with traders calling for enhanced protection to prevent a recurrence of such violent disruptions.
