The man, identified as Jacob Pelumi, a staff member of the Nigerian Correctional Services, allegedly took his own life inside a room at Abidan 115 Hotel just hours after a police manhunt was launched.
The hotel was officially shut down on Friday to preserve critical evidence, according to Lokoja Local Government Chairman, Abdullahi Adamu, who visited the scene.
“This closure is essential for supporting the ongoing investigation,” he stated.
The victim, Ayobami Aiyepeku, a local photojournalist, was reportedly murdered on Tuesday in an office located near the Government House/GRA area of Lokoja.
However, as of Friday evening, his body had not yet been recovered.
Aiyepeku’s grieving family has demanded justice. His father, James Aiyepeku, called on Governor Ahmed Ododo and security agencies to intensify efforts to recover his son’s remains and ensure those responsible are held accountable.
Chairman Adamu has urged Lokoja residents to remain calm and allow authorities to conclude the investigation professionally.
