Kogi Police Officers Killing triggers outrage as state pledges full investigation, arrests, and stronger security after Egbe checkpoint attack

Kogi Police Officers Killing has sparked statewide outrage following the brutal murder of three police officers and two vigilante members at a checkpoint in Egbe, Yagba West Local Government Area, on Wednesday.

The tragic attack, among the deadliest in recent times, underscores the growing threat to security operatives in rural parts of the state.

In a swift response, the Kogi State Government condemned the killings and called for a full-scale investigation into the attack, which has thrown the Egbe community into mourning and fear.

Commissioner for Information, Kingsley Fanwo, said the government was “deeply concerned” by the breach and had directed security agencies to track down and arrest those responsible.

The **Kogi Police Officers Killing occurred on the same day as a separate kidnapping along the Lokoja-Obajana road, though that crisis ended in the rescue of 17 abducted passengers through the intervention of the Nigerian Army and local hunters—a move Fanwo described as “highly commendable.”

He emphasized that the slain officers died in the line of duty and that their bravery “will never be forgotten.”

He added that Governor Usman Ododo remains committed to turning the tide against crime, citing the deployment of more personnel and tactical equipment to flashpoints across the state.

“This administration will never submit to acts of terror,” Fanwo stated.

“Together with the resilience of our security forces and the support of our people, we will overcome those who threaten the peace of our land.”

The Kogi Police Officers Killing has reignited calls for enhanced security architecture in the state, especially in light of recurring attacks on operatives and growing concerns over the safety of communities bordering the Federal Capital Territory.

Ododo’s government, since assuming office, has invested in local vigilante outfits, surveillance tools, and improved coordination with federal agencies.

Still, the Wednesday attack serves as a chilling reminder of the ongoing risks faced by frontline defenders.

Authorities urge citizens to remain vigilant and to report suspicious movements, as efforts intensify to bring the perpetrators to justice and prevent further loss of life.
