Operatives of the Kwara State Police Command arrested suspected kidnapper Muhamodu Sanni at a Point-of-Sale terminal around the Obudu/Woru axis of Ilorin East Local Government Area on Wednesday, August 12, 2026, while he was allegedly attempting to withdraw ransom proceeds linked to a recent abduction.
The arrest followed intelligence-led investigations launched after three people were abducted during an armed invasion of Obudu Village on July 28, 2026, according to the command.

The Police Public Relations Officer, Adetoun Ejire-Adeyemi, disclosed the development in a statement issued through the command’s X account.
Rather than focus solely on the location where the victims were taken, investigators followed the wider network supporting the alleged kidnapping operation, examining its communication, logistics and financial channels.
That approach eventually led detectives to the ransom transaction and, subsequently, to Sanni at the POS terminal.
The command said Sanni was allegedly attempting to cash out money connected to the abduction when operatives intercepted him.
“During interrogation, the suspect voluntarily cooperated with investigators and made useful disclosures concerning his role in the ransom collection process,” Ejire-Adeyemi said.
According to the police, Sanni also identified two other suspected members of the network, named as Aminu and Umar.
The disclosures have provided investigators with additional leads as they work to establish the wider structure of the alleged syndicate and determine the respective roles of those linked to the operation.
The arrest represents a significant development in the investigation into the Obudu abduction, particularly because the police were able to trace the alleged ransom collection process rather than relying solely on conventional searches for the perpetrators.
Kwara has continued to face security concerns involving kidnapping and other forms of organised criminal activity, making intelligence gathering and financial tracking increasingly important to law enforcement efforts.
The latest operation also reflects the broader emphasis by the Nigeria Police Force on intelligence-led policing, particularly in disrupting the support networks that enable kidnapping operations to function.
Kwara State Commissioner of Police Ojo Adekimi reassured residents that the command would continue efforts to dismantle criminal networks and restrict their ability to operate.
The police urged residents to provide credible and timely information that could assist ongoing investigations and help prevent further attacks.

The command said investigations remain ongoing, while operational leads provided by the arrested suspect are being pursued discreetly.
