The Lagos State Government has ordered residents living in flood-prone communities to relocate immediately to safer areas as the state intensifies measures to reduce the impact of anticipated flooding.
The relocation directive affects residents of Isheri North, Kara, Itowolo, Ajegunle and Majidun, communities identified as highly vulnerable to flooding because of their proximity to rivers and low-lying terrain.

State Commissioner for the Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, said the directive followed increased concerns over rising water levels and the heightened risk of flooding in vulnerable riverine communities. He urged residents not to ignore evacuation warnings, stressing that protecting lives remains the government’s priority.
According to the government, emergency response agencies have been placed on alert, while drainage channels and waterways are being monitored to minimise the impact of heavy rainfall across the state.
Residents were advised to move valuable belongings to safer locations, cooperate with emergency officials and avoid building or dumping refuse on drainage channels, which could worsen flooding.
The relocation order comes as Lagos continues its annual flood management campaign aimed at protecting communities most exposed to seasonal flooding and reducing the risk of loss of life and property.
