According to a traffic report from the Ogun State Traffic Compliance and Enforcement Agency (TRACE), the accident occurred around 9:00 p.m. and involved a white Toyota Hiace bus with the number plate AGL 54 XU.
The bus reportedly rammed into a moving truck from the rear at high speed, leading to **fatal consequences.
Authorities say the truck, which had no registration plate, fled the scene immediately after the collision.
“The cause of the crash was excessive speeding by the bus driver, who lost control and crashed into a moving truck,” TRACE’s official report stated.
The crash involved 12 people — seven men and five women. Two people — one man and one woman — died on the spot, while two others sustained injuries.
Emergency responders, including the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) and TRACE officials, managed traffic at the scene by reducing the expressway to a single lane.
The deceased were taken to the Ogun State University Teaching Hospital morgue in Sagamu, while the injured were rushed to AZ Hospital in Magboro for treatment.
This incident marks yet another deadly collision on the busy Lagos-Ibadan corridor.
Only 24 hours earlier, two people were killed in three separate crashes along different roads in Ogun State, including the Abeokuta-Sagamu Expressway and Ijebu-Benin Expressway.
TRACE spokesperson, Babatunde Akinbiyi, confirmed a pattern of speeding and reckless driving as the primary causes behind the recent spike in fatal crashes.
The Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, one of Nigeria’s busiest transport arteries, continues to witness frequent accidents despite ongoing reconstruction and increased traffic surveillance.
