Sanwo-Olu’s Office Dismisses viral resignation and health rumours, insists Lagos governor remains fit and in charge

Lagos IGR 2025 Growth rises as state revenue hits ₦2.6tn in 2025, driven by digital tax reforms and expanded compliance systems

In Lagos, Nigeria, on Friday, May 22, 2026, the Lagos State Government announced a robust financial performance for 2025, revealing that total revenue rose to ₦2.6 trillion, driven by significant expansion in tax collection and digital reforms led by the administration of Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.

The Commissioner for Finance, Abayomi Oluyomi, disclosed the figures during a Ministerial Press Briefing held at the Bagauda Kaltho Press Centre in Alausa, Ikeja, where he detailed the state’s fiscal achievements and reform agenda.

According to Oluyomi, Lagos State recorded a rise in total revenue from ₦2.3 trillion in 2024 to ₦2.6 trillion in 2025, representing a 16 per cent increase.

Internally Generated Revenue also climbed sharply from ₦1.58 trillion in 2024 to ₦1.87 trillion in 2025, underscoring what he described as sustained momentum in the state’s revenue drive and a key phase of Lagos IGR 2025 Growth.

He noted that tax revenue performance reached a historic peak, rising from ₦678.13 billion in 2023 to ₦1.045 trillion in 2024, marking the first time the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service crossed the ₦1 trillion threshold.

The upward trajectory continued into 2025, when tax revenue surged further to ₦1.443 trillion, reflecting a 38 per cent increase year on year.

Oluyomi attributed the impressive gains to what he called aggressive digital transformation and sweeping reforms in tax administration.

He said the state government had expanded the Lagos State Internal Revenue Service e Tax platform to improve efficiency and widen the tax net.

The upgraded system now includes stamp duties processing, Capital Gains Tax filing integration, geo tagging tools, report building functions, Corporate Affairs Commission integration, and expatriate tracking through the Nigeria Immigration Service.

He described the reforms as a powerful step towards closing revenue gaps and strengthening compliance.

He also revealed that the e Tax mobile application had been migrated to the cloud to enhance security and ensure safer access to taxpayer data.

In addition, multiple payment channels including mobile platforms, POS terminals, USSD services, WhatsApp payment options, and online systems were strengthened to make tax payment easier and more accessible.

The Commissioner stressed that the state remains committed to sustaining growth, expanding its tax base, and financing critical infrastructure needs through improved revenue mobilisation.

The continued Lagos IGR 2025 Growth, he said, reflects the impact of structured reforms and technology driven governance.

The announcement signals a steady strengthening of Lagos State’s fiscal position, with analysts expected to watch closely how the revenue gains translate into urban development and public service delivery in the coming months.
