Lagos school attack threat claims lack verified intelligence, police say, as security is strengthened around schools and communities

The Lagos State Police Command has assured residents that there is no verified intelligence suggesting any imminent attack on schools in the state following the circulation of a threatening notice allegedly warning of plans by bandits to abduct schoolchildren.

The reassurance was issued by the Police Public Relations Officer, SP Abimbola Adebisi, on behalf of the Lagos State Police Command amid growing concerns among parents, guardians and school authorities over reports of a notice purportedly pasted at a school.

According to the command, the notice claimed that bandits were planning to attack and kidnap pupils, triggering anxiety among residents and education stakeholders.

Addressing the reports, Adebisi said the police had immediately assessed the situation and activated enhanced security measures in the affected area and other strategic locations across the state.

“The Lagos State Police Command has seen reports of a threatening notice allegedly pasted at a school, claiming that bandits intend to attack and abduct school children,” the statement said.

The command emphasised that there is currently no verified intelligence supporting claims of an imminent attack and urged residents to remain calm while security agencies continue monitoring the situation.

Despite the absence of confirmed threats, police authorities said all security concerns were being treated with the utmost seriousness to ensure the safety of schoolchildren and residents.

The Commissioner of Police, Tijani Fatai, has directed an immediate security assessment and ordered what the command described as watertight security measures around schools, critical infrastructure and communities across the state.

As part of the response, police personnel have been deployed alongside other security agencies to strengthen visibility, reassure residents and deter any potential criminal activity.

The command reiterated that Lagos remains secure and warned criminal elements against any attempt to threaten public peace or create fear among residents.

Police authorities stated that individuals or groups involved in activities capable of causing panic, insecurity or public disorder would face decisive legal action.

The statement also called on residents to support security agencies by providing credible information and promptly reporting suspicious movements, persons or objects within their communities.

“Security is a collective responsibility, and effective policing thrives on active partnership between the Police and members of the public,” the command said.

Residents were encouraged to contact the nearest police station or use official emergency lines to report any suspicious activity.

The police further assured Lagosians that all necessary measures were being maintained to guarantee the continued safety, security and well-being of residents across the state.
