The state Commissioner for Environment and Water Resources, Tokunbo Wahab, disclosed the enforcement action in a statement shared via his official X account.
According to the commissioner, operators of the affected public toilet facility were found to have deliberately channelled their septic chamber directly into the drainage system, resulting in sewage overflow and offensive odour within the surrounding community.
He noted that the act constituted environmental pollution, public nuisance, and posed serious health risks to residents.
In a related enforcement operation, Wahab said the ministry also sealed COSJANE Mall located along Festac Link Road in Amuwo-Odofin for allegedly discharging untreated wastewater into public drainage channels.
The commissioner explained that the action followed repeated warnings issued to the mall’s management, which were reportedly ignored.
He stressed that the discharge of untreated wastewater into public drains violates environmental regulations and threatens public health and sanitation standards within the state.
Wahab reaffirmed the ministry’s commitment to strict enforcement of environmental laws, emphasising that the state government would continue to sanction individuals and organisations found culpable of improper waste and wastewater management.
