The Lagos State Ministry of Environment and Water Resources today commenced the demolition of an illegal gatehouse erected by the Maplewood Estate management in Agege, following a series of escalating confrontations.
The ministry had issued multiple warnings to the estate regarding unauthorized construction, including a recently built soakaway encroaching on the public road.
Despite these warnings, the estate proceeded with the construction, culminating in an attack on ministry officials yesterday.
When the ministry’s task force attempted to demolish the illegally constructed septic tank, they were met with aggression, resulting in their detention.
In response to this blatant disregard for the law and the safety of its personnel, the ministry today initiated the demolition of the entire gatehouse.
