The Lagos State Environmental Protection Agency (LASEPA) says it shut 250 organisations, including worship centres, industries and night clubs over noise pollution in the last three months.

LASEPA’s General Manager, Dr Babatunde Ajayi disclosed this on Wednesday at a one day capacity building for its accredited consultants across the State to update their knowledge on the current trends in addressing global climate change challenges and other environmental problems for sustainable development.

Ajayi added that some of the organisations were sealed for other environmental infractions, saying that the agency is embarking on a lot of reforms geared towards achieving a noiseless, cleaner and safer Lagos that is pollution free.

“We are committed to a new Lagos that is clean, safe and environmentally friendly, where businesses thrive without hindrances to human health, ” he stated.

Ajayi also charged the agency’s accredited consultants to support the State government in its bid to deliver a safer, healthier and sustainable environment through the adoption of Environment Social Governance (ESG) global model in tackling identified environmental challenges

He noted that the new Environment Social and Governance (ECG) model is the global practice in tackling the trending climate change effects and other environmental problems around the world.

The General Manager said the training of LASEPA accredited consultants became necessary so as to update their knowledge and increase their capacities in the application of the global standard model in managing environmental issues, especially climate change problem and it’s associated green house gas Emissions.

Ajayi stated that the programme would also help to raise awareness on knowledge transfer and competence development of the agency’s accredited consultants with the overall objective of improving public service delivery by the agency.

He said the agency, in achieving its ministerial mandate would strengthen its enforcement measures to ensure compliance with government regulations towards achieving a cleaner and sustainable environment in line with the T.H.E.M.E.S development agenda of the state government.

James Ogunleye, Executive Director, Carbon Limits Nigeria who spoke on behalf of other facilitators stated that the programme would help to expose LASEPA accredited consultants and broaden their knowledge on the current global practices in sustainable environment.

He said there was a great departure from the old practice of consultants just having knowledge of Environmental Impact Assessment, EIA Environmental Audit Report EAR and Environmental Impact Analysis EIA to qualify as a consultant
