A Wizz Air flight travelling from London to Sofia, Bulgaria, was diverted to Budapest, Hungary, on Monday, November 2, 2026, following a reported bomb threat received while the aircraft was airborne.
The Airbus A321neo, which departed London Luton Airport at 8.33am, was scheduled to arrive at Sofia International Airport at approximately 1.25pm local time before the security alert forced it to change course.

Hungary’s Defence Minister, Romulusz Ruszin-Szendi, said a Hungarian Gripen fighter jet was deployed within minutes to escort the aircraft to Budapest.
The plane landed safely at Budapest Liszt Ferenc International Airport at 12.08pm, according to reports by Sky News.
Wizz Air confirmed the diversion in a statement, explaining that the bomb threat was received while the aircraft was in flight.
The airline said the aircraft landed safely in accordance with established security protocols before being directed to a designated stand for inspection.
“Wizz Air confirms that today’s London Luton–Sofia flight was diverted to Budapest following a bomb threat received during the flight,” the airline stated.
It added that it was cooperating fully with the relevant authorities and reiterated that the safety of passengers and crew remained its highest priority.
Following the landing, Hungarian authorities began security checks on the aircraft and passengers, while police carried out additional security measures at the airport.
However, details surrounding the threat remained unclear as of Monday afternoon.
Authorities had not disclosed who was responsible or whether any suspicious objects had been discovered.
It was also unclear whether the threat was communicated from on board the aircraft or by someone on the ground.
Reports had yet to establish whether passengers and crew had been allowed to disembark.
Flight-tracking platform Flightradar24 showed that the aircraft had originally been scheduled to reach Sofia at about 1.25pm local time before its route was redirected towards Hungary over Bosnia and Herzegovina.
