Makinde 2027 presidential bid

Makinde PDP Loyalty reaffirmed as Oyo governor pledges to remain in the party and dismisses defection rumours before 2027 polls

Governor Seyi Makinde has declared that he will remain in the Peoples Democratic Party, dismissing speculation of a possible defection ahead of the 2027 general elections.

Makinde made the emphatic statement on Wednesday during the Omituntun Ramadan Lecture in Ibadan, assuring party members and supporters that his allegiance to the PDP remains unwavering.

He stressed that loyalty should be rooted in service delivery and good governance rather than personal political alignments.

“I am not going anywhere,” the governor said, reaffirming his commitment to the platform under which he was elected. His remarks drew applause from attendees, signalling broad approval of his stance.

The declaration follows growing rumours that Makinde could shift alliances within the PDP as political manoeuvring intensifies in preparation for the next election cycle.

Addressing the speculation directly, he maintained that competence and performance must remain the party’s guiding principles.

Makinde also urged party leaders to prioritise unity and institutional strength.

While acknowledging that individual politicians are free to make personal choices, he cautioned that such decisions should not undermine the party’s structure or distract from its core mission.

The Makinde PDP Loyalty declaration is expected to calm tensions within the state chapter and reinforce the governor’s position as a key figure within the party’s national framework as preparations gradually begin for 2027.
