Nasboi slams Carterefe

Nasboi slams Carterefe over claims that skit making is dead, calling the remark harmful and defending the fast-growing Nigerian skit industry

Nigerian skitmaker Nasiru Lawal, widely known as Nasboi, has publicly criticised fellow content creator Oluwatobi “Carterefe” Carter, condemning the streamer’s claim that skit making is “dead”.

Nasiru Lawal made the remarks during an interview with Naija FM Lagos, responding to comments Carterefe made on The Honest Bunch Podcast, where the streamer suggested that the skit industry was declining.

Carterefe had said the perceived decline left him feeling depressed before he pivoted into online streaming, a move he credited for reviving his career.

However, Nasiru Lawal rejected the claim, describing it as an unfair dismissal of the industry that helped Carterefe gain recognition.

Nasiru Lawal said evolving professionally was understandable, but publicly undermining an industry that created opportunities for many creators was unacceptable.

“Evolving is not a bad idea but talking down on the industry that made you is a crime in my books,” Nasiru Lawal said during the radio interview.

Nasiru Lawal added that he maintains a personal relationship with Carterefe despite the criticism.

“Carterefe is my friend, we speak every time. But he is a loose talker,” Nasiru Lawal said.

The skitmaker insisted that short-form comedy content remains a powerful launchpad for emerging Nigerian entertainers, pointing to the steady rise of new online creators.

“You can’t say skit making is dead. People are blowing up every day with skit making,” Nasiru Lawal said.

Nasiru Lawal further argued that creative evolution does not invalidate the industries performers originally built their careers in.

“The fact that people evolved doesn’t mean that the industries they are leaving are dead,” Nasiru Lawal added.

The exchange highlights ongoing debate within Nigeria’s fast-growing digital entertainment space, where many comedians and influencers continue to use short comedy skits to build massive audiences across social media platforms.
