Nigerian activist JustAdetoun has criticised Ogun State Governor Dapo Abiodun over the handling of Anthony Joshua’s fatal road accident, sparking online backlash and official denials.

Nigerians are barely settling into the mood of a new year, and Ogun indigenes are yet to recover from the shock of the tragic road accident involving world-renowned boxer Anthony Joshua along the Makun axis, where two lives were reportedly lost, when another controversy has erupted around Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun.

The latest drama was triggered after Nigerian social media personality and activist, Adetoun Onajobi, popularly known as JustAdetoun, publicly criticised the governor over what she described as a lackadaisical response to the fatal accident.

She also questioned the preparedness and effectiveness of health institutions in the state, accusing the government of failing residents in moments of emergency.

JustAdetoun’s comments quickly gained traction online, drawing reactions from supporters and critics alike.

Matters escalated after reports emerged that the governor had allegedly threatened to have the activist arrested for remarks deemed insulting to his mother.

In what appeared to be a direct response, JustAdetoun called the governor’s bluff in a lengthy and emotional social media outburst.

In the video, she accused Governor Abiodun of lacking basic human compassion and surrounding himself with media aides who, according to her, are disconnected from the realities and frustrations of Ogun residents.

She further alleged that one of the governor’s media aides, SF Ojo, had reached out to her privately, urging her to take down the initial video in which she criticised the governor’s handling of the Anthony Joshua accident.

Reacting to the allegation, SF Ojo denied the claim in its entirety, stating that contrary to her claims, the activitist was the first to reach out to him and complained about the governor ignoring her.

He described her account as untrue, sharing screenshots to back his position.

In another development, the Ogun state government is yet to issue an official statement on the continued captivity of a former member of the Ogun State House of Assembly and All Progressives Congress official, who is reportedly still in the hands of kidnappers.

Adding to the public outrage, videos of Governor Abiodun surfaced online showing him attending a social event, an image that has further fuelled criticism and raised questions about priorities at a time of grief, insecurity and public anxiety in the state.
