The Federal Government declares December 25, 26, 2025 and January 1, 2026 as public holidays for Christmas, Boxing Day, and New Year celebrations
The Federal Government on Monday declared Wednesday, December 25, and Thursday, December 26, 2025, as public holidays to mark Christmas and Boxing Day, while Wednesday, January 1, 2026, has been set aside for New Year celebrations.

The announcement was made in a statement issued by Dr Magdalene Ajani, Permanent Secretary of the Ministry of Interior, on behalf of Minister of Interior Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo in Abuja.
Olubunmi Tunji-Ojo urged Nigerians to reflect on the values of love, peace, humility, and sacrifice associated with the birth of Jesus Christ, stressing the importance of unity across faiths and ethnicities.
He further called on citizens to pray for national progress and improved security during the festive season, while advising the public to remain law-abiding and vigilant.

The minister concluded by extending warm wishes to all Nigerians, saying: “The Federal Government wishes every citizen a Merry Christmas and a prosperous New Year.”
