Nigeria’s headline inflation rate declined to 14.63 per cent in September 2026, down from 15.39 per cent in August, according to the National Bureau of Statistics.

The NBS disclosed the figures in its Consumer Price Index report released on Thursday, October 15, indicating a slowdown in the country’s inflation rate during the month under review.

The latest figure represents a decline of 0.76 percentage points from the August rate, suggesting that the pace of price increases eased over the period.

However, a lower inflation rate does not necessarily mean that the prices of goods and services have fallen. It generally indicates that prices are rising at a slower rate than before.

The September report provides an update on inflationary trends in Africa’s largest economy, where households and businesses continue to monitor changes in the cost of living.

Further details from the NBS report, including the performance of food inflation and core inflation, are expected to provide a clearer picture of the factors behind the decline.

More information is expected as details of the report emerge.
