Following the adoption of the Visa Waiver Agreement between the two countries, the Ghanaian Embassy in the United Arab Emirates (UAE) has denied allegations that Ghanaian and UAE passport holders can now travel between the two nations without a visa.

On Thursday, August 5, 2021, Parliament passed a deal that will allow Ghanaians and UAE passport holders to enter the country without a visa.

The agreement on a mutual exemption of entrance visa requirements is in respect of diplomatic, service/special, and regular passport holders, according to details of a Memorandum of Understanding (MoU) between the Governments of Ghana and the UAE.

However, Ghana’s representative in the UAE has stressed that, while the agreement has been ratified by Ghana’s Parliament, the implementation stages have yet to be finalized.

The Embassy however released a statement with date August 9 where it advised the public to ignore the alleged reports. It added that it will officially announce any update when the agreement takes effect. The statement reads;

“It has come to the attention of the Embassy that the publications on the internet on social media seem to suggest that Ghana passport holders can now travel visa-free to the United Arab Emirates…”

“The Embassy urges the public to disregard all such publications and messages,” the statement said.
