NSCDC CBN security clash Awka as operatives and CBN guards reportedly clash during child rescue operation, causing panic in Anambra estate

Operatives of the Nigeria Security and Civil Defence Corps (NSCDC) and private security personnel attached to the Central Bank of Nigeria (CBN) Awka branch have reportedly clashed at Weather Head Estate in Awka, Anambra State, triggering panic among residents during a child rescue operation.

NSCDC CBN security clash Awka occurred when NSCDC operatives were said to be acting on a petition regarding a missing four-year-old child allegedly taken from her nursery school without the guardian’s consent.

According to sources, the NSCDC team traced the child to a building within the estate and were preparing to carry out a rescue operation when they were allegedly confronted by the Chief Security Officer of the CBN Awka branch and his private security team.

The confrontation reportedly escalated into a tense standoff, with armed operatives on both sides creating fear and confusion within the residential area.

Witnesses said the situation led to panic as residents fled for safety amid fears of a possible shootout, while the child was allegedly taken away during the confrontation.

The circumstances surrounding the child’s removal have been linked to a family dispute between estranged parents, raising suspicions of unauthorised custody.

NSCDC Anambra State Command has reportedly initiated steps to investigate the incident and has raised concerns over the conduct of the CBN security personnel involved.

Efforts to obtain an official reaction from the NSCDC media unit were unsuccessful at the time of filing this report.
