Mr. Ayo was reportedly shot by armed assailants who stormed the community in what residents described as a sudden and coordinated assault that sent panic across the area as gunfire erupted.

The officer was rushed to a medical facility shortly after the attack but later succumbed to his injuries, confirming a tragic outcome that has left the community in shock.

The attackers also abducted Mr. Ayo’s first daughter before fleeing the scene, an incident that has intensified fear and anger among residents of Odo-Ere.

The NSCDC Officer Kogi Attack has further exposed the fragility of security in parts of the state, where communities have repeatedly raised concerns over recurring kidnappings and armed raids.

Residents who spoke after the incident described the attack as devastating, calling on security agencies to urgently reinforce surveillance and response operations to prevent further loss of lives.

The incident comes amid a broader wave of insecurity affecting rural communities in Kogi State and neighbouring areas, where bandit groups have continued to carry out violent incursions.

Community leaders warned that the continued attacks were creating widespread panic and displacement risks if decisive intervention is not taken.
