Ariyo, who was serving in Abeokuta South Local Government Area, reportedly died on Tuesday from complications linked to a pregnancy termination procedure, according to multiple sources familiar with the incident.
It was gathered that Olalekan allegedly announced her death verbally and subsequently mobilised fellow corps members to arrange her burial.
Her remains were reportedly interred at Kobape Cemetery along the Kobape-Sagamu Road in Abeokuta.
Sources also alleged that the LGI had been in a personal relationship with the deceased, which led to the pregnancy and subsequent termination that preceded her death.
These claims have not been independently verified by authorities.
A police source confirmed that Olalekan is currently in custody at the Ogun State Police Command headquarters in Eleweran, Abeokuta, as investigations continue.
The Police Public Relations Officer, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, confirmed that a formal investigation has been launched into the circumstances surrounding Ariyo’s death but declined to provide further details regarding the arrest.
He stated that the case had been transferred to the State Criminal Investigation Department for a full inquiry.
The incident has drawn heightened public attention, coming less than a month after another corps member, Adeleye Mary, who served in the same local government area, died under what officials have described as mysterious circumstances.
