A serving member of the National Youth Service Corps (NYSC), whose identity had not been established in the initial report, was killed on Monday, 12 October 2026, after a trailer reportedly struck several vehicles near Agodi Gardens in Ibadan North Local Government Area of Oyo State, leaving several other people injured.
The fatal collision occurred after the articulated vehicle had allegedly been involved in earlier crashes around the Sango area before continuing towards Agodi Gardens, according to eyewitness accounts cited by PUNCH Metro.

One eyewitness, who spoke on condition of anonymity because they were not authorized to speak to the media, said the truck had reportedly collided with several vehicles before reaching the area where the corps member was travelling on a motorcycle.
“The articulated vehicle had been involved in multiple collisions around Sango before this fatal incident occurred.
The truck driver had reportedly hit several vehicles around Sango before proceeding towards Agodi,” the eyewitness said.
Another witness said the incident turned fatal when the trailer collided with the motorcycle carrying the corps member, killing the rider’s passenger or occupant at the scene.
The initial report did not establish whether the corps member was riding the motorcycle or travelling as a passenger.
“The truck eventually hit the motorcycle, killing the NYSC corps member, while several other people sustained injuries,” the eyewitness said.
The source further alleged that the driver had attempted to flee after the earlier collisions around Sango.
However, the circumstances surrounding the driver’s actions and whether the driver was subsequently apprehended had not been officially confirmed at the time of reporting.
A visit to the scene by a PUNCH Metro correspondent found officials of the Federal Road Safety Corps (FRSC) attending to the aftermath of the crash.
The injured victims were reportedly transported to nearby hospitals for medical treatment.
As of the publication of the initial report, authorities had not publicly confirmed the identity of the deceased corps member, the precise number of injured victims or whether the truck driver had been arrested.
The incident has renewed concerns about road safety in Ibadan, particularly the dangers posed by heavy articulated vehicles when collisions occur in succession along busy urban routes.
Trailers and other heavy commercial vehicles can cause extensive damage when involved in crashes because of their size, weight and stopping distances.
Where an initial collision is followed by further impacts, the consequences can be especially severe for motorcyclists and other road users with limited physical protection.
The circumstances described by witnesses also underline the importance of establishing a clear sequence of events through official investigations.
Confirmation from road safety authorities and the police would be necessary to determine the cause of the collisions, establish responsibility and clarify whether any traffic or vehicle-safety violations contributed to the fatal outcome.
For the NYSC community, the death represents a tragic loss involving a young Nigerian serving under the national programme.
Further details about the victim’s identity, family and place of deployment were not available in the initial report.

The investigation into the crash and any subsequent action against those found responsible will be important in establishing accountability and preventing similar incidents on Oyo State’s roads.
