Obi vote strengthens Tinubu claims by Kenneth Okonkwo sparks political debate ahead of 2027 elections in Nigeria

Chieftain of the African Democratic Congress, Kenneth Okonkwo, has sparked political debate after claiming that a vote for former Labour Party presidential candidate Peter Obi in the 2027 general election would ultimately favour President Bola Tinubu.

Okonkwo made the statement in a video shared on Symfoni TV via YouTube, where he discussed Nigeria’s evolving political landscape ahead of the next election cycle.

He argued that opposition votes could be fragmented in a way that strengthens the position of the incumbent president.

“A vote for Peter Obi in 2027 is a vote for Tinubu,” Okonkwo said in the widely circulated clip.

The remark has since generated discussion across political circles and social media, with supporters and critics offering contrasting interpretations of the claim.

Political analysts note that early commentary on the 2027 elections reflects intensifying alignments and strategic positioning among major political blocs.

The statement adds to ongoing debates over coalition-building, opposition unity, and vote distribution as parties begin informal preparations ahead of the polls.

Okonkwo, a former Nollywood actor turned politician, has remained a prominent voice in opposition politics since aligning with the ADC.
