Ogun Court Grants Extended Protection

Ogun Court Extends Gbenga Daniel Protection in property feud with state government, urging mediation while preserving legal safeguards

Ogun Court Extends Gbenga Daniel Protection after a tense hearing on Tuesday, where Justice O.S. Oloyede ordered all parties to maintain the status quo in the ongoing property dispute between the former governor and the Ogun State Government.

The interim orders, initially granted to safeguard the assets of Otunba Gbenga Daniel, were successfully extended following arguments by his lead counsel, Barrister Yinka Kotoye, SAN.

The ruling ensures that Daniel’s properties remain shielded from government action until further resolution.

The court also urged both sides to seek an amicable settlement through mediation, adjourning the matter until October 13, 2025.

Importantly, the judge declined to compel Daniel’s team to submit documents at this stage, reinforcing a fair process.

Tensions flared when the state’s legal team, led by Solicitor-General R.B. Kadiri, pushed for documentation from the claimants.

Kotoye countered firmly, stressing that the government must first withdraw previous contravention and quit notices served on Daniel’s properties before any discussions could move forward.

The feud reached its boiling point after Ogun State officials invaded three high-profile properties linked to Daniel—Asoludero Court, Conference Hotels Limited, and its Annex—on August 8, 2025, issuing demolition threats.

Critics described the move as political persecution and a misuse of state power under Governor Dapo Abiodun.

This confrontation follows the 2023 controversial demolition of a plaza owned by Daniel’s wife, an act still mired in legal disputes and public outrage.

Many observers see the latest escalation as part of a bitter political vendetta rather than impartial law enforcement.

For now, the extended protection stands as a decisive legal win for Daniel, giving room for dialogue while keeping his assets secure.
