The Peoples Democratic Party (PDP) has officially endorsed President Bola Tinubu’s 2027 reelection bid, marking a bold shift in regional political dynamics.
Speaking at the Remo Federal Constituency bye-election campaign flag-off in Sagamu, Ogun PDP Chairman Abayomi Tella described Tinubu as the “Father of the Nation” and emphasized the need for unity in the South West.
“Our support is not just political, it’s cultural and strategic,” Tella said, underscoring the importance of having a Southwestern voice in Aso Rock.
The PDP is also gearing up for the August 16 bye-election to fill the vacancy left by the late Deputy Chief Whip, Hon. Adewunmi Onanuga. Tella called on party members to resist intimidation and turn out in numbers.
In a show of commitment, PDP’s Southwest Zonal Secretariat has been temporarily relocated to Ogun State.
National Vice Chairman Kamorudeen Ajisafe criticized the ruling APC for coercive defection tactics and affirmed the PDP’s readiness to secure a landslide win.
Governorship candidate Oladipupo Adebutu echoed these sentiments, stating the party’s support for Tinubu is intended to ensure a peaceful, credible election, while challenging the APC’s “bad governance” in Ogun.
Candidate Bolarinwa Oluwole urged Governor Dapo Abiodun to uphold electoral integrity, promising voters a fresh, accountable voice in Abuja.
