The Ogun State Police Command has arrested two suspected members of a cattle theft syndicate and recovered six stolen cows while also foiling a suspected abduction attempt in separate security operations across the state.

The operations, carried out by police teams in Sagamu and along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway, were part of ongoing efforts by the command to strengthen security responses and disrupt criminal activities.

The operation began after officers from the Sagamu Division received a distress call in the early hours of July 25, 2026, reporting that suspected cattle thieves had invaded a cow yard in the Maskoli area of Sagamu and stolen seven cows.

According to the police spokesperson, DSP Oluseyi Babaseyi, officers immediately mobilised and launched patrols around suspected escape routes.

“Upon receipt of the report, operatives immediately mobilised and commenced coordinated patrols around identified exit routes,” Babaseyi said.

The police spokesperson explained that officers acting on credible intelligence intercepted suspicious vehicles along the Sagamu-Ijebu-Ode Expressway, leading to the arrest of Abiodun Kamilu, 35, and Adesanya Segun, 37.

Police recovered six of the seven stolen cows, as well as the vehicle allegedly abandoned by the suspects during their attempted escape.

Investigations are ongoing to identify and arrest other members of the suspected syndicate and recover the remaining animal.

In a separate security operation on July 26, officers from the Safer Highway Patrol Team reportedly prevented a suspected abduction attempt at Onigaari, along the Lagos-Ibadan Expressway.

The police said officers on routine patrol responded after hearing gunshots in the area. Their quick intervention forced the suspected attackers to abandon the operation and escape into a nearby bush.

The suspected victim was rescued safely and escorted with his vehicle to the Ogunmakin Police Post for further procedures.

“The swift response and tactical presence of the police forced the hoodlums to abandon their criminal mission and flee into the adjoining bush,” the command said.

The Commissioner of Police in Ogun State, CP Bode Ojajuni, praised the officers involved in both operations, describing the outcomes as evidence of improved vigilance, intelligence gathering and coordinated policing.

CP Ojajuni assured residents that the command would continue to intensify patrols, strengthen security strategies and respond promptly to distress calls across the state.

He also encouraged residents to provide timely and reliable information to security agencies, stressing that community cooperation remains important in preventing crime and maintaining public safety.
