Ogun revenue drive gains momentum as OGIRS chairman Olugbenga Olaleye urges staff to uphold integrity, curb leakages and support Nigeria’s tax reforms

Olugbenga Olaleye, Executive Chairman of the Ogun State Internal Revenue Service, has urged staff of the agency to remain focused on their duties and uphold integrity as the state intensifies efforts to boost revenue generation, curb leakages and eliminate sharp practices.

Olugbenga Olaleye made the call during a New Year prayer session held at the agency’s headquarters in Oke-Mosan, Abeokuta, according to a statement issued on Wednesday by the Information and Public Relations Officer of the service, Bola Sobola.

Olugbenga Olaleye said integrity was central to building and sustaining the trust of taxpayers and the wider public, particularly at a time when new tax reforms are being rolled out nationwide.

He urged staff to educate members of the public on how the reforms are designed to bring prosperity across income groups, especially for low-income earners who are expected to retain more disposable income under the new regime.

Olugbenga Olaleye encouraged workers to perform their duties diligently, embrace righteousness and maintain the fear of God, describing those values as essential pathways to institutional and personal success.

He also stressed the importance of clearly communicating the intent and objectives of the tax reforms, saying this would help promote compliance among high net-worth individuals while supporting economic growth, increased production and lower inflation.

The Ogun revenue drive comes as tax authorities across Nigeria adjust to new legislative frameworks aimed at strengthening collection, reducing evasion and improving transparency.

At the prayer session, Pastor Caleb Ayinla of Rhema Chapel International Churches in Lagos delivered a sermon drawn from the Book of Jeremiah, urging staff to cultivate a disciplined prayer life and integrity in both professional and personal conduct.

The Chief Imam of the Government Secretariat in Oke-Mosan, Imam AbdulFatai Buhari, also addressed the gathering, calling on workers to avoid hypocrisy, renew their commitment to public service and act proactively in carrying out their responsibilities.

In his closing remarks, the Director of Administration and Supplies at the agency, Olusegun Akinfaiye, thanked staff for their dedication and encouraged them to intensify efforts to ensure the state meets its 2026 revenue targets.

The event combined administrative messaging with moral exhortation, reflecting the agency’s effort to link ethical conduct with institutional performance as Ogun State seeks to strengthen its fiscal position.
