Nigeria’s First Lady, Senator Oluremi Tinubu, empowers 250 elderly residents of Enugu State with a financial support package totaling N50 million under the Renewed Hope Initiative’s Elderly Support Scheme (RHIESS).
Each beneficiary received N200,000 during the programme, which focused on enhancing the well-being and dignity of citizens aged 65 and above.
The event, themed “Total Wellness: Happy, Healthy, and Prosperous Lifestyle,” emphasized the importance of physical and mental health for the elderly. Represented by Mrs. Nkechinyere Mbah, wife of the Enugu State Governor, the First Lady encouraged the beneficiaries to adopt healthy lifestyles by eating well, exercising, staying hydrated, and fostering strong social connections.
Senator Tinubu stated, “Our desire for dignity, respect, and compassion remains constant as we age. It is our duty to ensure our elderly live their golden years with comfort and fulfillment.”
In addition, Mrs. Mbah announced that the Enugu State Government, led by Governor Dr. Peter Ndubuisi Mbah, would contribute another N50 million to the scheme to increase the number of beneficiaries.
She also distributed bags of rice to participants and praised Senator Tinubu and the RHIESS team for their impactful initiative.
This collaborative effort highlights a commitment to improving the quality of life for Nigeria’s senior citizens and promoting a culture of care and respect for the elderly.
