Oluremi Tinubu urges Women

Empowering women in technology through training and mentorship, this event highlights gender inclusion and skill development in the tech industry.

Oluremi Tinubu urges Women in Tech trainees to use digital skills to transform communities, stressing continuous learning and female empowerment

Oluremi Tinubu has charged Nigerian women to leverage technology to create lasting impact in their communities, following the completion of the Renewed Hope Initiative (RHI)–Huawei Women in Tech training programme.

Speaking at the closing ceremony in Abuja, the First Lady commended the 300 participants for their dedication and urged them to apply their new digital skills to solve real-world problems and mentor other women.

“Although the training has ended, technology keeps changing,” Mrs Tinubu said. “Your biggest strength is your ability to keep learning, evolving, and adapting to new trends available for your growth in technology. Use your new skills to solve real problems in your various communities because true innovation is only valuable when it improves lives.”

The Women in Tech programme — a collaboration between the Renewed Hope Initiative and Huawei Nigeria — was designed to equip women entrepreneurs across Nigeria’s six geopolitical zones with digital and entrepreneurial skills.

Mrs Tinubu emphasised that the initiative supports President Bola Tinubu’s Renewed Hope Agenda, which focuses on inclusive growth and economic diversification through technology and industrialisation.

“When women are equipped with the right tools and knowledge, they become agents of change in their families, communities, and the nation at large,” she said. “This programme has successfully trained 300 women between April and October 2024, preparing them to thrive in today’s technology-driven world.”

She also encouraged participants to serve as mentors and advocates for girls aspiring to join the digital economy, adding that collaboration and mutual support among women were key to sustained progress.

Earlier, Chris Lu, Managing Director of Huawei Nigeria, praised the partnership with the First Lady’s initiative, describing it as a vital step toward digital inclusion. “Empowering women with digital skills is not just a matter of inclusion but a necessity for national progress. When women rise, nations thrive,” he said.

He added that the participants had demonstrated innovation and determination, becoming “ambassadors of digital transformation and hope.”

Similarly, Kashifu Abdullahi, Director-General of the National Information Technology Development Agency (NITDA), commended the First Lady and Huawei for their collaboration, noting that the programme aligns perfectly with the government’s digital economy strategy.

“When you empower a man, you empower an individual; but when you empower a woman, you empower a nation,” Abdullahi said. “This initiative is not just about skills but about creating ambassadors who will drive progress within their families and communities.”
