‘On their trail’ Police recover N37m, five getaway cars Uromi robbers abandoned

The Police command in Edo on Friday confirmed that some monies suspected to been stolen by robbers during Thursday’s bank heists in Uromi, have been recovered.

The State Commissioner of Police, Phillip Ogbadu, said that about N37 million and five cars suspected to have been used by the robbers as getaways were recovered at a bush where they were abandoned.

He noted that it was suspected that the robbers might have abandoned the monies and the vehicles on realising that the police were on their trail.

Dare devil robbers on Thursday evening carried out what many persons had termed coordinated attacks on some commercial banks in Uromi, Esan North-East Local Government Area of Edo.

Witnesses said the bandits operated for more than two hours.

Edo Deputy Governor, Phillip Shaibu on Friday visited the banks hit by the bandits.

According to the police, gunmen, who raided four banks and attacked a Police Divisional Headquarters killed seven people.

Witnesses said the gunmen got to the town in large numbers and in several vehicles before they attacked the four banks with dynamites.

Police spokesman in Edo, SP Bello Kontongs confirmed the killing of the two Police officers and five civilians in the attack.

The banks raided were Zenith Bank, First Bank, Unity Bank and the United Bank for Africa (UBA).
