Ondo father death case sparks concern as police arrest a 38-year-old man over the alleged killing of his 65-year-old father

The Ondo State Police Command has arrested a 38-year-old man, Nsikak Kingsley, over the alleged killing of his 65-year-old father, Adone Peter, following a domestic dispute in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of the state.

The tragic incident, which has shocked residents of the community, reportedly occurred on May 28, 2026, after an altercation between the father and son escalated into violence.

Confirming the development in a statement issued on Thursday, the Police Public Relations Officer of the Ondo State Command, DSP Abayomi Jimoh, said the suspect had been taken into custody and is assisting investigators.

According to the statement, preliminary findings indicate that Nsikak Kingsley allegedly engaged his father in a heated confrontation that turned physical.

“The Ondo State Police Command under the leadership of the Commissioner of Police, Felix Ohagwu, has arrested a 38-year-old man, identified as Nsikak Kingsley, for his alleged involvement in the death of his biological father, Adone Peter, aged 65 years,” the statement said.

Police said the deceased sustained severe injuries, particularly to the head, during the incident and was immediately rushed to a medical facility for treatment.

Despite efforts by healthcare personnel to save him, Adone Peter was pronounced dead while receiving medical attention.

The command stated that the circumstances leading to the disagreement remain under investigation, as authorities work to establish the full details surrounding the incident.

DSP Abayomi Jimoh disclosed that the suspect was apprehended after a complaint was lodged by his brother at a nearby police station, prompting officers to launch an investigation and effect an arrest.

“The tragic incident occurred in Oda Community, Akure South Local Government Area of Ondo State, and has generated widespread concern among residents of the area,” the police spokesperson added.

The Ondo Father Death case has drawn attention to concerns over domestic violence and family-related disputes, particularly where conflicts escalate into fatal confrontations.

Police authorities have not indicated when the suspect will be formally charged but said investigations are ongoing.

The incident comes amid previous cases of fatal family disputes recorded in Nigeria. In 2024, police in Lagos arrested a 25-year-old man, Chibunnma Chimelie, who allegedly stabbed his 68-year-old father to death in the Isolo area of the state.

Authorities have urged residents to seek peaceful means of resolving disputes and to report threats or acts of violence before they escalate into tragedy.
