Billionaire businessman Femi Otedola has revealed a remarkable personal connection with Lagos State Deputy Governor Obafemi Hamzat, recalling that the two shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago.
Otedola disclosed the long-standing bond on Monday after hosting a dinner in honour of Hamzat, the All Progressives Congress (APC) candidate for the 2027 Lagos State governorship election.

In a post on his X account, Otedola described Hamzat as a man of high integrity and reflected on the relationship that dates back nearly five decades.
“Yesterday, I hosted dinner in honour of @DrObafemiHamzat, the incoming Governor of Lagos State. A man of the highest integrity, with whom I shared a bunk bed at boarding school 49 years ago,” he wrote.
Otedola said his experience of Hamzat’s character over the years had been shaped by qualities including honesty, sincerity and fairness.
“My experience of his character over the years has been defined by his honesty, sincerity, fairness and strong moral principles,” he added.
The dinner brought together prominent figures from Nigeria’s business community, including industrialists Aliko Dangote and Abdul Samad Rabiu.
The gathering came as Hamzat prepares to contest the 2027 Lagos governorship election on the APC platform.
Hamzat emerged as the party’s governorship candidate after winning its Lagos primary in May. He polled 657,917 votes, while his challenger, Olanrewaju Jim-Kamal, received one vote, according to the announced results.
Hamzat has served as Lagos deputy governor since 2019 under Governor Babajide Sanwo-Olu.
He is seeking to succeed Sanwo-Olu when the governor’s second term ends in 2027.

Otedola’s recollection of their school days has added a personal dimension to the businessman’s public expression of confidence in Hamzat, highlighting a relationship that began long before either man became prominent in business and public life.
