Oyo government denies Gbagi market closure

Oyo government denies Gbagi market closure rumours, assuring traders that Bola Ige International Business Complex will remain open for business

Oyo government denies Gbagi market closure following widespread speculation that the Bola Ige International Business Complex in Gbagi, Ibadan, would be shut down on Monday.

Commissioner for Investment, Trade, Cooperatives, and Industry, Adeniyi Adebisi, dismissed the reports on Sunday, describing them as false, baseless, and the handiwork of mischief-makers seeking to cause tension within the trading community.

“The Bola Ige International Business Complex remains a hub of commercial activities in the state, and at no point did the government contemplate shutting it down. Normal activities will continue without hindrance on Monday and beyond,” Adebisi stated.

He added that while the government is aware of certain exploitative practices by some shop owners who rent out space in front of their shops to petty traders, steps are already being taken to address such issues fairly and protect all stakeholders.

Permanent Secretary of the ministry, Olajide Okesade, also reaffirmed the government’s position, assuring that security arrangements are in place to maintain peace and order within the complex.

The state government emphasized that under Governor Seyi Makinde’s administration, efforts remain focused on creating an enabling environment for businesses to thrive.
