Peller criticism sanctions unfold as streamer faults Nigerian musicians and faces backlash over unauthorised Benin Palace visit

Popular Nigerian TikToker and streamer Habeeb Hamzat Adelaja, widely known as Peller, has come under scrutiny after criticising Nigerian musicians, as the Benin Traditional Council imposed sanctions over his unauthorised visit to the palace of the Oba of Benin.

The development, now widely described as a Peller criticism sanctions episode, began after Peller spoke during a livestream in Enugu, accusing Nigerian artists of sidelining local streamers in favour of foreign influencers and media platforms.

Peller argued that many musicians only engage Nigerian content creators when their relevance begins to decline, urging entertainers to support local platforms regardless of international success.

He singled out Davido, Olamide, and Tiwa Savage as among the few he considers supportive of local streamers.

While reactions to the comments continued to build online, the situation took a dramatic turn following reports that Peller and his team entered the Benin royal palace without following established protocols.

The Benin Traditional Council described the incident as a serious breach that disrupted order and caused embarrassment within the palace.

Following a preliminary investigation, the council suspended a palace chief linked to the incident, while a staff member, Mr Omuemu, was arrested and charged with aiding the unauthorised access.

A queen implicated in the ঘটনায় is currently under review and may face removal.

The council emphasised the importance of upholding palace traditions and maintaining discipline within the revered institution.

The incident has added a powerful cultural dimension to the controversy surrounding Peller’s remarks, highlighting tensions between modern digital influence and traditional authority.
