Pete Edochie laments ₦40,000 daily electricity cost

Pete Edochie electricity cost reaches ₦40,000 daily as the veteran actor laments Nigeria’s worsening power crisis and rising energy expenses

Pete Edochie, veteran Nollywood actor, has raised alarm over Nigeria’s worsening electricity crisis, revealing that he spends about ₦40,000 daily to power his home.

Edochie made the disclosure during an interview on African Independent Television (AIT), where he spoke about the harsh reality many Nigerians face due to unreliable electricity supply.

The 78-year-old actor explained that the Pete Edochie electricity cost reflects the combined expenses of purchasing electricity units and running multiple generators.

“I spend about ₦10,000 every day buying electricity units. Then I spend ₦20,000 on diesel to power the generator and another ₦10,000 on petrol for a smaller generator,” Edochie said.

“That brings the total to ₦40,000 daily just to provide electricity in my house.”

Edochie said the situation deeply disturbs him and mirrors the hardship experienced by millions of Nigerians struggling with inconsistent power supply.

“It disturbs me a big deal. Then I listen to people who are only interested in getting into politics and enjoying power. Nobody seems to be bothered about what’s happening to the common man,” the actor added.

At the current rate, the actor’s electricity expenses amount to roughly ₦1.2 million monthly, underscoring the growing cost of energy in the country.

The comments from Pete Edochie come as many Nigerians complain about declining electricity supply despite the federal government’s band classification system.

Under the system, Band A customers are expected to receive between 20 and 22 hours of electricity daily.

However, many consumers across several states have reported receiving as little as five hours of power in recent weeks, even in areas classified under Band A.

Energy analysts say the persistent supply shortfall continues to push households and businesses towards costly alternatives such as petrol and diesel generators.

For many Nigerians, Edochie’s revelation reflects a broader and troubling reality of the country’s electricity challenge.
