Peter Okoye birthday change sparks reactions online as the Nigerian music star announces a new celebration date, stirring fresh family controversy

Nigerian music star Peter Okoye, one half of the former duo Psquare, on Tuesday stunned fans after announcing a dramatic change to his official birthday celebration date in a series of posts on X.

Peter Okoye declared that he would no longer observe November 18 as his birthday, stating instead that celebrations would now take place on November 30.

The singer described the decision as personal, adding that he would no longer accept messages or gifts on the original date.

The announcement quickly triggered widespread reactions online, with many linking the Peter Okoye birthday change to his ongoing and highly publicised rift with his twin brother, Paul Okoye.

The development has reignited conversations around the strained relationship between the former music partners.

In his statement, Peter Okoye wrote that the adjustment was final and requested public understanding, insisting that the new date should now be recognised as his official birthday celebration.

The move, however, drew mixed reactions from fans and observers, many of whom expressed disbelief at the symbolic shift.

Some social media users suggested the decision reflected the depth of tension within the Okoye family, while others criticised the public nature of the announcement.

The controversy comes against the backdrop of years of conflict within the Psquare brand, once one of Africa’s most successful music groups.

The duo, Peter Okoye and Paul Okoye, alongside their elder brother and former manager Jude Okoye, have been embroiled in disputes over finances, management, and personal grievances.

Peter Okoye has previously stated that Psquare is no longer active, insisting he now operates independently.

He has also publicly dismissed calls for reconciliation, maintaining that personal boundaries must be respected.

Despite repeated public commentary from all sides, efforts to fully resolve the family rift have remained elusive, with each development appearing to deepen the divide.

The latest Peter Okoye birthday change has once again placed the singer at the centre of public debate, blending personal identity with one of Nigeria’s most enduring celebrity family disputes.
