PGF Crisis deepens as rival APC governors’ factions emerge ahead of the 2027 elections amid mounting internal tensions
A major leadership crisis has erupted within the Progressive Governors Forum as Imo State Governor and Chairman of the forum, Hope Uzodimma, insisted he remains in control of the body alongside Kaduna State Governor, Uba Sani, amid the emergence of a rival faction led by Ogun State Governor, Dapo Abiodun, and Kwara State Governor, AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq.

The development, which surfaced in Abuja on Friday, marks a significant crack within the ranks of governors elected on the platform of the ruling APC ahead of the 2027 general election cycle.
Sources within the party said tensions had been quietly building for months over internal leadership control, influence within the forum and strategic political positioning ahead of future electoral contests.
Despite reports of the split, Governor Hope Uzodimma is understood to have maintained that the recognised leadership structure of the Progressive Governors Forum remains intact, with Governor Uba Sani continuing in his role as deputy chairman.
However, another bloc within the forum has reportedly aligned behind Governors Dapo Abiodun and AbdulRahman AbdulRazaq, creating a parallel power structure that could reshape political alliances within the APC.
The unfolding PGF Crisis is expected to trigger fresh calculations among influential party stakeholders, especially as governors continue to play a dominant role in determining the direction of the ruling party at both state and national levels.
Party insiders said disagreements over succession planning, internal consultations and control of strategic decisions may have contributed to the division, although neither camp has publicly disclosed the exact cause of the standoff.
The silence from both factions has further fuelled speculation over the depth of the disagreement and its possible implications for party unity ahead of the next election season.
Political observers believe the powerful split could alter negotiations within the APC and intensify behind-the-scenes alignments as key actors position themselves for the 2027 contest.
